1st. Brian reminded the Board that Kim needs articles
on the WSCA Show Bills, Spring Show Recap, Expo welcome, and information
on the Arabian Open Show Championship.
MAHA Website
Roberta has submitted information to Dan Beach for the latest update.
Expo
Diana Pierce was unable to attend. Brian reported that he secured
the AHA poster booth to use at the Expo. Brian also contacted
the Expo chairperson and received written permission for MAHA to
bring in horses on a daily basis. This will allow us to ask
stallion owners to bring in their horses for special presentations. The
horses will have to come in the early morning and will have to depart
after the Expo closes. Laura requested that we keep any extra
AHA brochures the brochures and handouts remaining after the Expo
to use at the Open Show Championship. Laura sent insurance
information to Expo.
Spring Show
Teresa was not able to attend the meeting but Brian reported that
Teresa reported that everything appears to be in order but she
does need help handing out ribbons on Saturday morning and evening. The
Youth also need assistance with the Auction. There are concerns
about the possible snowstorm and the fact that the MN Equestrienne
Center has indicated that no one can arrive before Thursday morning. Sandy
Feuling recommended that we negotiate with the MN Equestrian Center
to allow trainers coming from a longer distances to get into the
barn early. Brian requested that Laura Mickelson investigate
the cost of cancellation insurance.
Toni Marie O’Daniel is serving as the barn manager and reported that the show was initially overbooked for stalls but because of the possible snow storm there have been a few cancellations so we now have 5 open stalls. Lorie Conway volunteered to take one stall.
Shirley Theede brought up a concern about the lack of radios. Roberta Lembke reported that MAHA was supposed to have purchased radios last year and that we need to locate those radio. Brian will make sure that someone at the show check the locker to see if the radios have been stored there, verify how many we have, and then the Board can determine if we need to purchase radios. Brian and Sandy have extra radios available for the club to use and will bring them to the show.
Insurance Committee
Laura Mickelson reported that the applications for both club insurance
and the Spring show have been sent in. Connie Robilliard
will be asked to contact Laura by mid-June if the renewal form
for insurance for the Fall Show hasn’t arrived. Equisure
sent Laura a note stating that they hadn’t gotten our club
insurance. Laura reported back to them that we had sent it
in.
WSCA Shows
Pat Forehand reported the MAHA and the MAHA Youth Open Shows will
be held at the Steele County Fairgrounds July 15 and 16th. Phil
Callahan and Vee Ann Woods are the judges for the shows. The
show bill was printed and will be reproduced in the Spotlight and
the Leader. . Pat will look into getting the show bill on
the Spotlight website, in addition to the MAHA website. Pat
has requested that each MAHA Youth work to get 3 sponsorships. Pat
will set up a youth meeting to educate the Youth on how the show
runs and give them a rundown on their responsibilities.
Open Show Championship
Laura Mickelson updated the Board on the progress of the Championship
program. She is going to make a request to AHA for $500 to
help cover the costs of the publicity for the program. Some
of the publicity ideas include posters, ads on the Spotlight and
MAHA website, and a potential mailing to WSCA members. Laura
is checking on the price of the mailing. Roberta Lembke will
ask the Dan Beach (MAHA web designer) to help design a web ad for
the program. Laura has also reserved the AHA booth and posters. All
participants participating in the Championship Show will get one
free Associate membership in MAHA. Laura reported that they
are short 3 reserve ribbons but will wait until after Regionals
to see if they can get other donations of ribbons.
Fall Show

4-H judging teams at her farm for a judging event that is also open
to MAHA Youth. Doug Peterson also announced that he is hosting
a quarter horse judging team; MAHA Youth are welcome to attend
this event also. Toni Mari O’Daniel reported that the
MAHA Youth first judging team event is scheduled for April 15th at
Cedar Ridge Arabians.
Welcome Committee
Sandy Feuling reported the Welcome Committee is set for the show. They
will have water, coffee, juice, and rolls. Lori offered to
sponsor Fridays, in addition to her second day. Hesten Park
will also do one day. Hesten Park and LeFever will each sponsor
a day at the Fall Show.
Volunteer Committee
Shirley Theede reported no new developments.
Membership
Shirley Theede reported that we have 276 adult members, 72 Youth
and 6 Life members. Shirley informed the Board about the
problem with the AHA Lifetime member’s MAHA membership. Even
though these individuals have paid to become a AHA Life Member
they are not MAHA Life members; they are required to pay MAHA dues. Some
of the AHA Life Members are long-time MAHA members who are no longer
active in the club but played instrumental roles in the organization
of the club.
Doug Peterson moved that MAHA grant a Lifetime membership to Mary Ann Grimmel. Pat Forehand seconded. Motion passed.
Doug moved that we grant MAHA Lifetime membership to Mickey Hay. Lori Conway seconded. Motion passed.
Shirley also informed the Board that if individuals renew their members directly to MAHA instead of going through the AHA website and they join late, MAHA is assessed a late fee when we submit the dues. Our form doesn’t show the $10 late fee. The board agreed that we must bill these individuals. Sandy will develop an invoice for the late fee. Shirley will write a letter to accompany the invoice explaining the late fee.
Banquet Committee
Sandy Feuling reported that she has booked Flaherty’s in Arden
Hills on December 2nd for our Fall General Membership Meeting and
Banquet. The facility has a bowling alley and a banquet facility. The
Delegates will give a presentation about the convention. Sandy has
information on getting a DJ for the event.
Laura expressed concern that having the banquet after convention the delegates won’t have a way to get member input about resolutions presented at convention. Roberta recommended that we send a customized email to the members with information about the resolutions and ask that they contact the MAHA Delegate Chair with their opinions on the resolutions. Laura is the current delegate chair and will coordinate the delegates to develop the list of resolutions that the members might want to provide feedback
Nominations and Election Committee
Lori Neises is going to assume the responsibilities for the Board
and delegate elections.

for candidates for this position in the Leader.
