President Brian Feuling called the meeting to order at 7:00PM

Secretary Report

The minutes from the August 2008 Board of Directors meeting were presented to the Board.  Laura Mickelson motioned to approve the minutes.  Lori Conway seconded the motion.  Motion approved. 

Treasurers Report

Jill Frieders presented to the Board numerous thank you notes from the youth who benefited from MAHA’s donation to the Filmore County 4H program.  Jill presented the Treasurer’s report.  The club total liabilities and equity is $79,406.20.  Jill reported that the Fall Classic Show is expected to have been profitable but the exact amount will not be known until all remaining invoices have been submitted for payment.  She estimates the net profit to be $5,600; we had budgeted for a net profit of $7,000.  The Open Show Championship is expected to have a profit of $1,500.  Toni Marie O’Daniel motioned to approve the Treasurer’s Report.  Lori Conway seconded.  Motion passed.

Website and MAHA Express

Roberta Lembke reminded the Board that October 15th is the deadline for submitting articles for the MAHA Express.

2009 Spring Show

The board discussed the costs associated with producing the Spring Fling/Fall Classic premium book.  The board agreed that this year we would not produce and mail out the show premium book.  Instead the show committee would mail out a postcard containing basic information about the show as well as include a link to the online version of the book.  The show committees would also mail out a printed version to those who did not have access to the Internet. 

WSCA/AOSC


Laura Mickelson reported that the Arabian Open Show Championship was profitable, with an expected $1500 profit.   Laura is going to make some changes to the schedule (timing) and will add junior horse classes to the 2009 show.  The 2009 show is scheduled for September 6 at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Lake Elmo...

MAHA Youth

Irene Simonson reported that only 7 youth entered the high point program this year. 

Fall Show

Jane Boots, Fall Classic Show Chairperson reported to Brian Feuling that 101 horses entered the show.  Jane expects the show to be profitable but a smaller profit than budgeted.  There was one injury reported to USEF.  Brian thanked Lori Conway/Conway Arabians for their donation of the stick horses to the show. 

MAHA Banquet

Hillary Hoffman presented the banquet invitations to the board.  The invitation will be included in the ballot mailing, in an e-mail blast, and in a notice in the MAHA Express.  The Board will ask the membership to ratify the Bylaw changes at the banquet.  Hillary is going to bring a Wii system and Guitar Hero to the banquet for the youth.  Hillary will be contacting a caricaturist to come in as entertainment.  Hillary asked the Board members to consider donating gifts to use as door prizes.

Brian Feuling reported that he has submitted 1-National, 1- Regional, and 2-Volunteer Service awards to AHA.  These will be announced at the banquet.  In addition to these AHA awards Brian will also be announcing the Region 10 Gelding Ambassador award, the Region 10 Presidents Award, 2-Presidents Awards and the Gamaars Finyl edition winner.  Laura Mickelson submitted information to AHA for the Club Excellence award.  The Board discussed and agreed that we would offer a free dinner to Gary Berhow and Chuck Biersborn

Membership

Shirley Theede submitted her report to Brian Feuling.  MAHA has 259 adult members, 75 youth, one 3-year membership and 9 Lifetime members. 

Black Stallion Literacy Project

The name has been changed to the Black Stallion Literacy Foundation.  Hillary will try to make contact with the person who is now in charge of the program.

Gamaar’s Final Edition Traveling Trophy

The board recommended that Ricci Di be awarded the Gamaar’s Final Edition trophy.

Delegate Report

AHA Convention is November 19-23.  All of the MAHA delegates registered for the convention.  Brian reminded the delegates that they need to submit their convention report before they will get reimbursed.

New Business

Nancy Dugan contacted Brian regarding the MN Equifest which will be held October 11-12 at the MN State Fairgrounds.  The MN Equifest requested MAHA’s participation.  The Board did not feel it was possible at this time.

Jill Frieders motioned that we adjourn the public section of the meeting.  Lori Conway seconded the motion.  Motion passed.
