Laura Mickelson motioned to approve the two sets of minutes from April 4, 2009.  Jill Frieders seconded the motion.  Motion approved.

Treasurer’s Report

Jill reported on the club finances.  The club has $71,482 in cash and is showing a net profit of $4,886.92 for the year.

Website/Express

The Board decided that we would begin to post the MAHA Express immediately after publication.

Insurance

Laura Mickelson reported that the club is set for insurance.

MN Horse Expo

Anita Grant reported Katie O’Shea has expressed interest in coordinating the Expo.  The Board discussed the need to clarify our expectations for the horses that represent MAHA and the Arabian horse.  In the past some of the horses have been green and have not represented the breed well.  The Board agreed that we would publish specifications for the horses prior to the Expo.

WSCA Shows and Open Shows Championship

Laura Mickelson reported that MAHA’s ad is on the cover of the WSCA Spotlight Magazine this month.  MAHA is sponsoring two of the championship classes at the WSCA Championship Show at the State Fairgrounds.  The Champ show is the largest show in the state; last year the show had 4,700 entries.  Lori Conway has agreed to present the awards.  John Diedrich will work on redoing the ad to fit the page specifications by August 22nd.  Laura will hang the MAHA banner and the vinyl ad banner at the show.  The Board agreed that we would like to sponsor the Western Bridlepath and English Pleasure classes.

Fall Show

Lori Conway asked that all board members try to get two sponsorships for the show.  Christina Mattson volunteered to help with ringmaster duties.  Lori will attempt to find one other ringmaster.  Lori is catering to the amateur with ATR classes, junior, and maiden classes.  There will be a wheelbarrow race; the winner will get a free stall at the spring show.  There will also be a clinic on Saturday night with a free dinner catered by either Green Mill or Hy Vee.  Lori is hoping to make the show fun and family friendly.

MAHA Youth

Teresa LeFever reported that Liz Bentley will be doing a clinic at LeFever Training Center for the youth.  Teresa hopes to schedule the clinic for Janauary.  Teresa would like to do two clinics per year.

Teresa also reported that the High Point program has 26 people in the 42 divisions.

Trail Ride Report

Pat Swanson reported that the trail ride was moved from Saturday to Sunday because of rain.  A number of riders could not attend on Sunday but the trail ride was still great fun.  The next trail ride is scheduled for October 10th in the afternoon.

Pat reported that she has been appointed to the Regional Recreational Trail Riding Program committee.  Region X is trying to move the concept of national trail riding down to a local level.  The Board agreed that we will keep our trail rides a club event at this time.

MAHA Banquet

Hillary reported via e-mail that the banquet is at the ChartHouse on November 14th.

Convention Information

Lori reminded all the delegates to get their convention materials.

Committee Sign Up/Club Awards

The Board agreed that we will submit information to apply for the Club Excellence award.

Nominations/Re-Election

Roberta Lembke asked all Officers and Board Members up for election to report to her their intentions so that the slate of candidates can be finalized.

New Business

Breyer Horse Model Show

Anita Grant brought guest Bev Manderfeld to discuss a sponsorship for a Model horse Show.  Bev showed the Board a couple of her horses and described how the shows are run.  Bev is requesting MAHA sponsor a show to be held at Anita Grant’s farm on October 17th.  The show would have Arabian classes.  The event will be advertised in the Northfield News paper, the Just about Horses magazine, the Breyer horse magazine, and would be submitted to other model horse publications.  Laura moved that MAHA sponsor a Model Horse Show and provide $500 to help cover expenses.  Anita Grant seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

Membership Secretary

The Board discussed the need to recruit and then retain members.  Ann Benson made a motion that we create a Director at Large Position for membership recruiting and retention.  Toni Mari O’Daniel seconded the motion.  The motion passed.  Ann will create a list of possible duties for the position and present to the Board at a later meeting.
