WSCA Shows and Open Shows Championship
Laura Mickelson reported that the MAHA banners were hung at the WSCA Champ Show. Laura recommends that we work more closely with the WSCA Championship Show program on the ad as this year they placed our two single page ads next to each other. We need to design the two ads as if a full page spread.
Laura reported that the AOSC show is expecting a profit of around $100. There were 31 fewer entries with 2 more horses than last year. Laura reported that a number of people entered just the AOSC show. Laura informed the board that the Open Show Committee is considering having just an open Arabian show and not sponsoring a WSCA affiliated show.
Fall Show
Lori Conway reported that there were 117 horses entered, with 139 stalls sold. The wheelbarrow ride was extremely well received. Lori expects that the show will break even. The Board discussed the clinic and all agreed that it was a great success. The Board thanked Lori for her work to make the show a success.
Trail Ride Report
Pat Swanson reported that the trail ride is scheduled for Saturday, October 10th. Pat reported that she has between 10 and 15 riders signed up. MAHA will provide coffee and hot cider.
Pat reported on the Distance Ride awards MAHA sponsored. Pat worked with the ride veterinarian and the ride manager to develop a set of criteria for the awards. The winning horse had to display excellent behavior and way of going and was a horse that stood out in the group.
The Board discussed how MAHA could encourage and welcome the distance riders to the club. The Board agreed that one simple gesture would be to have the club President send out a certificate and a letter of thanks to the award winners. The Board charged Pat to develop possible concepts for an expanded award system.
Model Horse Show
Anita Grant reported that Bev Manderfield has everything lined up for the upcoming model horse show. Anita was informed that the entries are down somewhat but sufficient.
