MAHA Recognizes Special Volunteers

Each year MAHA honors volunteers who go above and beyond the call of duty in their volunteer work for the club.  This year five volunteers were singled out as having provided exemplary service to the club.  These volunteers were recognized at the MAHA Annual Fall Meeting, held on November 13th at the Gainey facility.  Anita Grant, 2005 MAHA President had these words to say about these individuals who so generously gave their time to the club.

Donna Hentges

Donna Hentges This energetic lady is never at a loss for words and is impeccable at whatever she does!  One thing is for sure and that is that she is as good in the board room as she is in the breeding shed!  It is my honor to award “Donna Hentges” the “2004 AHA Club Level Volunteer Service Award”!  Donna has served on the board in different functions and two years as President.  Donna was responsible for designing and getting the MAHA Website up and running.  Along with all the other responsibilities she has to her credit a National Champion “First Cyte” and her homebred National Champion “Drama Queen.  Donna, thank you for working so hard for MAHA in many different functions and aspects of the club.  We know we can count on you to continue to work for MAHA and continue to bring champions to the forefront of the Arabian community from Minnesota.

Pat Forehand

Pat ForehandThank You just does not do this lady justice when it comes to her time and dedication to MAHA.  Her association with the club dates back to the middle 60’s and whatever the need if asked it was taken care of.  Pat has given of herself tirelessly at horse Expo, MAHA youth events, MAHA Horse Shows, Region 10 Shows, and as a director and Delegate to convention.  Pat also has owned many horses of distinction of which one “Gamaar” will go down in history as an exceptional stallion.  I have been blessed to have Pat as a friend; she has mentored me and many others.  MAHA is indeed fortunate to have a member who has remained active for decades and given of herself to the club as well.  I am honored to present you with this award.  Some of us are aware that you will be leaving Minnesota to retire in Missouri….I can not imagine MAHA without you!

2005 Presidents Award
Les Crowl

Les CrowlThis outstanding member has held many offices and is a volunteer extraordinary! If any one is needed for an upcoming event, he is the first one to step up and offer help. Most times when an event is first brought to the forefront, he immediately gets involved. I am sure you must have guessed that I am speaking of “Les Crowl”! Les is stepping down as a director this year and I am sure all of the Board and officers agree that we will definitely notice a difference. Les is a quiet great listener and always adds valuable input to every topic. He is with out a doubt the MAHA Volunteer of the Decade. Every show chairperson will tell you that Les always calls to volunteer before they get to the phone to call him. Les has always strove to make MAHA better and spent months working on a long range planning document full of questions and concerns of the membership. MAHA has much to thank Les for we are a better organization because of him. Les Thanks so much for coming along for the ride and making my job and others so much easier. We wish you many “Happy Trails or should I say races!”

2005 Directors Awards

Diana Pierce

Diana burst on the scene full of energy and ideas on how to enhance Horse Expo. I believe that was about 5 years ago and bless her heart she is still hard at it! Diana spent hours walking the barn and taking Photo’s of other breed’s horse stalls and presenting ideas to the board every year. A lack of volunteers has never caused her to give up; it just would appear that she works harder. Diana’s television schedule doesn’t always make it easy, but you can always count on her to be there whether it is at 6 am or 9pm. Hammers, staple guns, posters, whatever she does it with a beautiful smile. MAHA is so lucky to have a volunteer who gives of her time so willingly without complaints. Thank You Diana! Your hard work is appreciated!

Kim Schultz

It was at first very confusing as this lady shared the same first name as the editor. Not to mention she seemed to look familiar to many of us, we just couldn’t figure out why. One day she sent an email with her maiden name and we all were surprised that the one time MAHA Youth President was now our Leader Editor. Kim Kusilek Schultz has worked very hard at making our newsletter one of the best in the nation. She began this with the help of the late Marilyn Murray and the two worked expertly together and brought much to the publication. The untimely death of Marilyn last February put all of us in shock. Kim pulled up her boots and went right to work and somehow has managed to do this by herself. We can not praise her or thank her enough for all the hours and hard work she puts into this venture. Thank You Kim and keep up the good work!

Nancy Cowette-Seward

Nancy Cowette-Seward This special lady stepped up to the plate as being the MAHA Youth Director when we were in need and has provided her daughter Lizzie MAHA Youth President with the support and encouragement that was needed. Meetings always found Nancy driving to pick up youth that needed transportation to the meetings. The silent auctions they began have been a huge success. The horse shows were well run and volunteers were not a problem. It takes a lot of work to create fun outings for the youth and see them through and Nancy has done an excellent job. We thank you Nancy and appreciate all the time and work you have put into this.

Shirley Theede

Shirley TheedeShirley has long been a familiar face at the horse shows and when she arrived at a board meeting on day we were so pleased. Little did we know that she would step up to the plate and become Membership Chairman! Through her hard work and dedication, she has made a big difference in our attempt to make newcomers welcome. She is working to find out just how to fill the holes in our organization in attracting volunteers and getting them out and being recognized. Shirley, we applaud you and thank you for all your hard work.
