MAHA Open Shows — A Success

2005 MAHA & MAHA Youth WSCA Shows

The MAHA and MAHA Youth WSCA shows were held on July 16 and 17 at Cornerstone Equestrian Center in Hastings. Despite the treacherous heat outdoors, the indoor arena and warm up area at Cornerstone were much more comfortable. There was a good turn out each day - between 35 and 40 horses on Saturday and a smaller, but respectable, number on Sunday. Horses entered were split between Arabians and stock breed horses and everyone was pleased to see the diverse mix. Exhibitors also noted how pleased they were with the awards given, especially the great quality High Point awards.

Lizzy Seward acted as ringmaster on Saturday and gatekeeper on Sunday, with Laurel Reeves working as ringmaster on Sunday. Amy Gappa lent her voice as announcer on Saturday with help from Jeffery Johnson and Laura Mickelson was announcer on Sunday. Cress Hanson and Jonathon Danielson distributed awards on Saturday. Anita Grant also helped with several tasks. MANY thanks to all these volunteers and any that may have been inadvertently overlooked!!!

Everyone is encouraged to consider attending next year's MAHA WSCA shows; there is good competition and great opportunity for camaraderie between MAHA members. These shows are a wonderful way to proudly display your horse for an affordable price. The shows offer a great warm up for future shows and are especially helpful for those young horses or young riders that need exposure to the show ring.

Finally, we would like to express our thanks to Pat Forehand for her dedication to these shows, as she will be turning the reins over to another member for 2006. Pat has been the chair or co-chair of these shows for many years and has done a wonderful job of planning and organizing the activities. Next time you see her be sure to thank her for her years of service. Nancy Cowette-Seward and Lizzy Seward will soon begin the planning for next years WSCA shows. If there are changes you would like to see to these shows in the future or classes you would like added please feel free to contact either of them with your suggestions.
