Gamaar Fynl Edition

It was with heavy hearts that we had to say goodbye to “Zap” and to give the word to have him humanely put down.  This spring “Zap” was diagnosed with a neurological disease and antibiotics seemed to have no effect.  We are grateful to Dr. Jeske Noordergraaf for all the of her efforts to help him.

We’d like to acknowledge several people who had a part in “Zap’s” development through the years:  Pat Forehand, who bred him; Julieanne Ash, who owned him; Barbra Watson, who trained him; Gary Berhow, our farrier who took excellent care of him; Gary Holliday, who had conditioned and shown him – and called me early one Sunday morning in March 1993 saying, “I have a horse that has Lindsay’s name written all over him;” and my late husband Frank, who insisted that we scrape up the money to purchase this horse, even though we already had three Arabian geldings Lindsey was showing.

We are indebted to Gary and Sue Holliday of Holliday Arabians, who lovingly nurtured and cared for “Zap” for the thirteen years we owned him.  They loved him as much as we did.

“Zap” and Lindsey immediately formed a bond which grew stronger through the years.  In the show ring they moved as one.  “Zap” was always obedient, gentle and responsive to commands given to him.  He had a commanding presence in and out of the show ring.  There was always an aura of elegance about him.  He had a long list of admirers who will miss seeing him in the show ring.

“Zap” left an impressive show record.  He was Reserve Champion Jr. Horse, Region X in 1990.  With Lindsey, he competed in Country English Pleasure, Native Costume, Side Saddle, and Show Hack.  He was many times first or Champion in these disciplines at Class A shows and many times Champion, Reserve Champion and Top Five in Region X and Region VI shows.  He also was a Tri-State Champion many times.

In our grief and missing him so much, there is one bright light.  “Zap” was the sire of a lovely filly foaled in May of 2004 out of “Windblown Lace” (an Alada Baskin daughter).  “Lacey” was bred back to “Zap” in August of 2004 and a beautiful colt was born this year on July 8th.  It will be so interesting to watch his get mature.  We hope they’ll become Champions just like their sire.
We will always remember, with love, this gentle, pure white stallion who gave us so much pleasure and love in return.  He was a true example of the “Magnificent Breed.”
