MAHA highlights the Arabian breed at all-breed show during Meet an Arabian Horse Month

The Minnesota Arabian Horse Association (MAHA) successfully launched a Meet an Arabian Horse event at the May 17-19 DW Productions show in Mason City, Iowa, to help expose horse enthusiasts to the breed at one of the largest stock horse shows in the Midwest.

Event activities were spread across the three-days of the show and included daily presentations on styles and disciplines with Arabians ranging from bareback to vaulting and everything in between, coloring contests and scavenger hunts, new Non-Stock Reserve and Reserve Arabian weekend awards, $200 in cash giveaways and prizes, and a welcome table with helpful information and sign ups.

“It definitely got people talking about the breed, and some of the younger kids had never heard of the Arabian breed,” said Toni Marie O’Daniel, MAHA board member, program advocate and show participant. “Our Arabian exhibitors and horses loved the spotlight and the stock horse exhibitors wanted to do something similar for themselves.”

The show had stalls sell out quickly and more than 300 horses of all breeds attended, including nearly 20 Arabian and Half-Arabian horses. There was an Arabian or Half-Arabian in nearly every class, including non-stock type halter, which included 10 entries.

Show highlights include Brittney T. and her 24-year-old Arabian gelding, Samirais Cantecho (Jose), winning their first buckle and Morgan A. riding Johnny, an Arabian, to an Adaptive Championship.

The Meet an Arabian Horse event is a continuation of MAHA’s support for the popular DW Production shows, which are open to all breeds and is one of our club’s contributions to the Arabian Horse Association’s Meet an Arabian Horse Month. The event was partially sponsored by an Arabian Horses Market Development and Promotion Committee grant on behalf of the Arabian Horse Association to help promote the Arabian horse.
